we used avr dragon for programming atmel 32bit controller.

in last one month we had a problem in three avr dragon

on the time of programming it displays a msg as unable to connect to programming mode

we want to know the reason why it will happens

kindly give us a useful information

Is this the exact error message you receive?
[ERROR] Failed to enter programming mode. ispEnterProgMode: Error status received: Got 0xc0, expected 0x00, ModuleName: TCF (TCF command: Device:startSession failed.)
If not, could you please update me with the exact error message you receive?

There could be multiple reasons for this error and there are a few things you could try.
This error message is received a lot when something is not right with the wiring. So be sure to check your wiring, even if you think it is perfect.
If wiring is not the issue, it could be a matter of the AVR simply not getting power or not enough power.
Try updating the program you are using to the latest version.
Try updating the firmware for the AVR Dragon.

Dear Sir,

All the points you mentioned are already done since we had a problem in programming
Same error msg displayed when we are programming.Four avr dragon had the same issues.

Do you have an oscilloscope at your proposal?
In that case, check the levels of the communication lines. Also be sure to have the right debugging / programming interface enabled in your hardware. In order to use debugWire you'll have to enable it by setting a fuse (for example).
Also, check whether you don't have a capacitor that's too large on your reset line. Sometimes the RC on a reset line conflict with the timing requirements of the programming protocol.

Have you been able to verify that the boards you can't program with the four Dragons can be programmed at all. It isn't clear to me if you have a Dragon issue or a board issue. Did the 4 Dragons work before you tried them on your board, are they working with different targets ?

Did you solve your problem?
If not I will need a little more information from you.
1. Are these brand new AVR chips you are programming or you are reprogramming existing ones?
2. What are your fuse settings, or using default fuse settings?
3. Are the AVR chips used in production PCB?
4. The exact name of Atmel 32bit controller you are using, like ATmega8 for example?

I am pretty sure your AVR Dragon programmers are working correctly.
It has to do with something with how the AVR chip was programmed.
So please supply the information above so I can determine what is causing the programmer not going into programming mode.
