Linux distribution login password lost

newto10
newto10 over 10 years ago

Few months back i started working on Atmel Board SAMA5D3 Xplained board. It has a built in Linux distribution(Yocto/poky Distribution) and initially gave access as a root user without asking for a password. Now since it has been a while since i have worked with this board and unfortunately lost the login password which i had set few months before. Now like every linux distribution it does not have GRUB startup just after it boots so i cannot change the password. I am looking for any other option now since I access the board with serial emulator Tera Term on Windows OS. Is there a solution for this problem??

Maybe you should try to follow this community member's approach to get Debian running from SD card. It is also a nice learning traject ;)

I can tell you need to get to UBOOT. See U-Boot < Linux4SAM < TWiki. Under that you can set runlevel 1 where you can use the passwd command to set a new password.

Indeed lets make life easier for Monish image

Qemu can be handy to simulate and assist qemu: roms/u-boot/arch/arm/cpu/arm926ejs/at91 Directory Reference - doxygen documentation | Fossies Dox

Long time ago I used that great tool by Fabrice Bellard image

If Monish can get at the prompt to enter U-Boot and hit a key then something like

    U-boot> setenv bootargs ${bootargs} 1

    U-boot> saveenv

    U-boot> boot

Should enable him to change passwd I guess.
