Piracy has plagued the music industry for more than a decade. Efforts to curb illegal downloads went from shutting websites down to the filing of lawsuits. None of them has been effective to say the least. But what could the various artists do to encourage people to pay for their music? Not too much, that is, till now. SONOIO, a solo project from Alessandro Cortini (of Nine Inch Nails fame), has packaged his latest album with a portable electronic synthesizer created by Scott Jaeger. The SuONOIO is a sample based instrument but the user can modify the base sounds into new rhythms, textures and drones through the use of 6 knobs and another 2 for sample banks and pitch control. The unit runs on a 9 volt battery and pumps sound through its built in speaker. The synth also has a ¼ in jack for connection pedals, processors, amplifiers and can even be patched to more than unit to create endless possibilities. The mod abilities for this synth seem to be endless to say the least and with a price tag of only $159.99 it would seem music may be on the path to being legally purchased once more. Absolute genius, if you ask me. That is, as far as gimmicks go. Unfortunately, I'm sure they will still get pirated.
