I would use it to create a UART-controlled, SPI/I2C hot-pluggable memory reader/writer. Quite handy in many situations. Right now I have an SPI NOR flash used in a Linux-based router. U-boot is corrupted and I have to write it into the SPI NOR flash memory.

Nice Idea, I think the system for attaching reliably to the various memories and also the computer (Pluss the software) would be much more complicated than just the SPI component

A bit of VB programming is not such a big deal (to control the thing through UART). And I have a spare MCP2200 on my desk. I would put it on the LPC's PCB. I can see there's already an USB mini receptacle, so it would be easy to connect it to the USB. And since the LPC has a bootloader, I would be able to program the LPC810's flash easily. Though, I already have an LPC-Link from a LPC1114FBD48/301,1LPC1114FBD48/301,1 kit.

The whole think would be programmed using the UART and the board plus the MCP2200 would be like a baby Arduino or Mbed. image
