how would the GPS height meter indicate the height?

Would you use a serial display or merely set a trigger hight and have some LED indicators?

I was wondering because if you were using  a serial display you could  actually have the co-ordinates as well.

True but many BT/WIFI modules have their own compute and I/O you could almost completely write the device out of the equation.

you could drive an IR or ISM band radio  might reduce the BOM cost with a very cheap Radio setup ?

o okay nice but with a lpc800 I can do the calculations for the gps, so I can see the data on every device with bleutooth or wifi without a script.

Um you could extend that to entire environment monitoring using the various Gas sensors you may be interested in and maybe even report back via an ISM module say the cheap 433MHZ variety that Farnell and every body else does.
