Life and lead time.
Many TFT displays are manufactured for particular projects. And they may be end-of-life’d before you finish your design. This is especially applicable to LCD modules with built-in graphics controllers. Ask the glass manufacturer about production timeframes before including the LCD in your design.
Connector type. Verify it is possible to buy the connector for the glass.
Initialization. Some glasses must be initialized after each power-on cycle. Check the LCD connection diagram. If it has SPI signals, most likely the LCD has control registers inside that must be programmed. To get the highest image quality, request initialization register values from the glass manufacturer. These values may be unique for each LCD part number.
Additional circuits. Additional components influence the cost of your product. Check how many voltages must be supplied to the glass. If the glass connector has a VCOM signal, most likely the external VCOM level shifter circuit is required.
Backlight. Pay attention to the backlight type. LED backlights may require an LED driver circuit. CCFL backlight uses an expensive and noisy inverter. Determine how easy it is to buy the inverter with parameters specified in the glass datasheet.
