PCB Capacitor advice required

pbav
pbav over 6 years ago

Im not a technician but want to replace a 250v .22/10 1.70MKP capacitor on a Hoover TC650 tumble dryer and cant find one anywhere.

Can somebody please recommend an equivalent product or point me in the right direction.

Please see photo attached.

Forums online suggest that this being faulty is stopping the On button from engaging and staying ON

You need to replace this capacitor with a suitable mains rated "safety"  capacitor with the correct value and voltage rating and which will fit.

Farnell sell lots of them and you can find them here:

    https://uk.farnell.com/w/c/passive-components/capacitors/film-capacitors/film-suppression-safety-capacitors/prl/results?…

But I'm worried that you are asking this question - if you don't have a good grasp of mains voltage electronics and safety perhaps you should just buy a new board from Hoover.

In case this isn't an option here's a link to a simple explanation about all that X and Y rating stuff:

    https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/technical-articles/safety-capacitor-class-x-and-class-y-capacitors/

Once you've read this you should understand why you need to know where the capacitor fits in the circuit to choose the correct type.

This may all seem a bit heavy handed but, remember, tumble drier faults have caused many fires and killed several people.

I've tired to answer your question so that if you insist on doing it yourself you have a chance of getting it right but I' d be happier if you got a new board from Hoover.

Apologies if I'm teaching my Granny to suck eggs !

    MK
