Can i extend a lipo battery wire of 10 awg with a 14 awg wire

Hi all,

 

I've just started to get into building RC cars and currently have limited experience.

 

I accidentally cut my lip wires to short while changing the plug to an XT90.

 

The battery wire is marked as 10 AWG. Would it be possible to extend this wire with some spare 14 AWG i have laying around, or would i need to use 10 AWG?
