Hi Ken, I need serious help! I am not sure if this is the right forum. I am not an electronic engineer just an older, non tech savvy guy in Sydney who heard on the radio that the Raspberry pi (Model B 520, 4GB SD Card) would convert my TV into a smart TV... ! All I want is to be able to play streaming video ( such as movies, ABC i-view and wiziwig.tv) on my computer (upstairs) through the LAN network to the pi connected to my Panasonic plasma TV downstairs to view it there.

Alternatively, if there is computer software which allows me to save streaming video to my computer, I could then transfer it manually via an SD card or disc straight to my TV and not need the pi at all... PS the geeky son of a friend was unable to help...

I think the approach you are pursuing is much more complicated than just

getting a Google Dongle for TV at $35.  Have you considered this?  I am

assuming you have an internet connection capable of the required speed for

video.

FYI, have you looked at the Raspberry Pi quick start guide at

http://www.raspberrypi.org/quick-start-guide ?  Download the PDF file.

Also, I assume you have gone thru all the forum topics on the Raspberry Pi

website to see if your question or application has been dealt with before.

There is a lot of info there, but none I could readily find that meets the

solution of your problem directly.

I believe you will have to do some serious programming to get what you want

and I am not a programmer and cannot advise in this area.

Also, you might go onto elance.com and post a job description of what you

want to do and see if someone has already did it.
