    Hi Ken Boyce,

I want to know how to write firmware for chinese multimedia players(mp4/mp5 players) and make their binary files and how they are burn into the ROM from the manufacturer.

How these files are able to boot these players including soc chips from chinese manufacturers like sunplus,rockchip,jxd,...ARM926ej  is generally used in these portable players...

I want to customize these binary image files and want to play with these....kindly provide me players firmware knowledge and which is the development platform for these files?is it some kind of OS..?

Secondly how these players are able to decode all audio formats including mp3,wav,aac, is it software algorithm or the Soc ARM926ejs which is used is able to decode all formats efficiently and in other cases video formats of all types which are supported avi,wmv,flv,rb,webm... etc

complete reliable guidance/resource for this is appreciable in this regard...

    thanks in advance

If you want to re-purpose one of these devices you have a lot of work to do.

Somehow you will need to get the supplier of the chips to privide enough technical information but this won't be easy because there is no commerical reason why they should.

There are open source re-coding projects for some routers  - you might get some idea of how it's done by studying them.

    One device:

    http://www.rock-chips.com/a/en/products/RK28_Series/2013/0730/331.html

uses a built in DSP which would help the decoding.

thanks Michael, for the page you reffered to me but my  concern is also about how these IMAGE files used for booting the hardware are able to run on what principles?is this a kind of OS which is able to boot without following basic principles of booting an OS and as far as DSP is concerned to decode the formats of all audio and video ,is it meant for specific formats or it's a general format decoder .In case it is then we can make DSP core in SoC which is able to decode all the formats available in the world whether its audio/video just like we need to convert files from wav to ma3 or other format supported by our player, generally we need flv to avi converter software to convert and then play desired files in my player. AMV format is common among these players....

all of the work will be done by the hardware irrespective of the input format and all of the work will be done by the HARDWARE, no prior  format conversion with the help of software is required for this..

    bye
