I am a hobbyist and would like to build a radio receiver. Is there a basic circuit diagram available?

Do you want to build one from scratch Steve?

You can build one from discrete components down to single transistor level

or get a chip with most of the parts integrated into it.

Then you need to consider whether it's for medium/long wave, FM of even VHF

    air band etc

    HI Steve,

A good place to start is using a kit.

Electronic Kits, Electronic Hobby Kits, Electronic Kit

this will give you the basics.

keep your frequency low and you should do ok. Try to stay under 400 MHZ.

IF you want to make a 2.4GHz radio you need to go to a module.  That is what the pros use.  Texas Instruments is a good choice for modules.

    good luck,
