Are you familiar with foam plastic?
I would like to find a source for some stiff foam that is often used for packaging material.
I know the type (photos attached), but I do not know what it is called.
My desire is to buy some sheets of foam to use for customizing equipment cases. I need to be able to cut the foam sheets first to fit in various cases, then cut out compartments to fit various pieces of equipment.
The samples I have taken from packaging material are either black or white (I would like it in black), and it is very stiff so it is easy to cut. Yet it should not be crumbly as much of the white styrofoam packing is.
The foam that usually comes in "equipment cases" (i.e. camera cases, and pluckable foam) is much too soft. It needs to be stiff and strong even when the walls between compartments are not very thick. The soft foam collapses if some compartments are left empty.
I've been to lots of websites that even have photos, but I could not tell from their photos if what they are showing is exactly what I want.
There is polystyrene, polypropeline, polyetheline, polywanncracker, closed cell, open cell, hard sell, soft shell, etc.
Is anyone here experienced enough to help suggest what I might be looking for, or point me in a good direction?
Thanks
Charles
