a contact smart card has a set of gold-plated electrical contacts.

Im trying to figure how to make a device when I put a card on a sensor pad the sensors pad reports which side and which card is touching it.... but I want to do this with 10 cards...

Maxim-IC has a development kit for the dual card reader interface that has some of the libraries. That might get you started on the software recognition side of which side and which side is touching it.
