Multi channel camera controller

Hello all,

 

I am looking for a multi channel camera controller, in other words, a micro controller that is capable of processing multiple different camera streams and decoding/encoding onto a storage device. Is there a micro controller specifically built for this type of application?

  • Hello, microcontrollers are (usually) not able to handle such big data amount. A video stream is a "heavy duty" and also a compress / decompress program needs for high computational speed and memory resources. Probably you need for a SOC (System On Chip) that is a microprocessor with open bus and internal controller for hardware video codec, with capabilities of dma access to external dynamic ram. The easiest way to find one, very easy to be adapted to your needs, is to buy a Raspberry PI board... You can have all the resources needed for your job at low cost, using stable OS (linux) and fast development with open source tools, so you can reach a relatively low time-to-market. There are some emulators (QEMU) that you can try under Windows (or Linux) to give it a try. Obviously, I suppose the video stream you want to handle is coming from an IP camera or similar, but if you just have analog video signals, there are some USB interfaces (recognized by Linux) that can transform such analog video signal to digital stream and then you can elaborate it, after the conversion, in the way you like.
