Huawei Mg323 Send SMS text problem

Hi Guys

No idea who to ask on this.

We have a development board for the MG323 GSM modem and find that the following sequence of commands will send an SMS text from O2 and Meteor (All we have tested) but not Vodafone.

AT+CMGF=1

AT+CMGS?

AT+CMGS=?

AT+CMGS="0872730966"

> TEST TEXT

+CMGS: 72 CRLF

CRLF

OK CRLF

Doing the CTRL-Z after imputting the SMS Text to send (> TEST TEXT ) just has no effect. The modem just sits there with the > remaining.

Any ideas appreciated.

Hi Clem Thanks for your input. Right now it looks like it is a problem with some MG323 modules and not others. Related to different SW versions I'm assuming. We have a new board from production that works…

Please post your source code and Circuit. Also provide few more details like which Microcontroller you are using? Is it sending other commands?

Denis, Please add AT+CMEE=2 to turn on error codes in verbose mode. This may lead to more information. Cheers Clem

Hi Guys

Thanks for your input.

We have an mg323 development board driven from the com port of a PC. So no specific HW or SW.

Even using the modem driver application at

Module Tester | M2MSupport.net

I still just get the following

AT+CMGF=1
OK
AT+CMGS?
AT+CMGS=?
OK
AT+CMGS="0872730966"
>

And that's it stuck at the SMS text prompt. Additional error details wont help here. The modem is just stuck, or locked up.
But only with Vodafone SIMs

I've concluded at this stage Vodafone Ireland has a problem with the MG323.

Not sure how to confirm this.

Surprise!

Perform security-related tasks, such as opening or closing facility locks (AT+CLCK), checking whether a facility is locked (AT+CLCK) and changing passwords (AT+CPWD). (Facility lock examples: SIM lock [a password must be given to the SIM card every time the mobile phone is switched on] and PH-SIM lock [a certain SIM card is associated with the mobile phone. To use other SIM cards with the mobile phone, a password must be entered.])

We have a new board from production that works with Vodafone SIMs, but prototype boards or the Huawei development boards cant send a text with Vodafone SIM.

I will investigate the module versions as soon as possible.
