I am curently using some coils in a high voltage project.
I am a little worried that some of the coil might have some shorts, so i was wondering if enyone know a simple trick to test the coils..

You can try measuring the Q of the coil (google it if you need to) - if you have a good coil to compare with it can be easy to tell which coils are good and bad. If you can tell us a bit more about the coil and how you mean to use it I could make a more specific suggestion.

Some other ways to help determine if coils are healthy:
You can start with a close visual inspection looking for damage and evidence of arcing.
You can measure inductance and resistance and even capacitance - some coil datasheets list all 3 parameters.
You could measure the self-resonant frequency which may also be characterized on a datasheet.
You could also try to design your circuit to detect over-current or other signs of damaged coils.
Perhaps you can test most or all of your circuit at lower voltages.
