Running xenon lamp with higher voltage?

Yesterday i stumbled upon this realy awsome old russian xenon lamp, and i fell in love with it!

But when i checkedimage the spesifications for the electricity  it said that it needed 40V and 52A!!!image

And a power supply at that power costs a lot!

 

My question is, is it possible to run the lamp from a higher voltage but with les amps?.image

    Neat find!!

     

    (I assume its an arc lamp rather than a flash lamp)

    Check out this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenon_arc_lamp and look down towards power requirements.

     

    In short No. You can fiddle with the voltage/current a little bit but not extremely!! Be careful with UV emissions, it might not have any coating so thar be potential loss of sight/burnt skin and other such nastiness awaiting..

     

    As a hint towards how to power it; lead acid batteries (car batteries ac rectified) would be one way. check this out too: http://www.edisontechcenter.org/ArcLamps.html

    Any power supply that works from a plug socket is going to need a lot of heavy gauge wire so hence the costs..

     

    Mike from mikeselectricstuff might be able to help, he might already have one working!!

    Short extra:

     

    The high current requirement is due mainly to the length of the spark gap. Finding a bulb with a smaller gap would need less overall power.

     

    Did you notice the light output? 1.5cd/W
