Direct replacement for AT45DB081D-SSU

Hi

I'm looking for a direct replacement for AT45DB081D-SSU, as it's not manufactured anymore: http://export.farnell.com/adesto-technologies/at45db081d-ssu/ic-dataflash-8mbit-serial-8soic/dp/1455038

According to DigiKey, AT45DB081E-SSHN-T might be a replacement, but I've not enough experience to be able to verify this.

Try AT45DB081E: http://download.siliconexpert.com/pdfs/2014/5/4/13/28/7/641/adesto_/manual/9ds-45db081e_028.pdf looks like the replacement. They have better speed up to 85Mhz and can run at lower voltage 1.7V albeit lower speed of course.

    C

Edit: ww.adestotech.com/pcn/dfreplacement.pdf chart of replacement verifies this.

    Clem,

Thanks a lot for your reply (and edit).

If I compare the two parts on Farnell: http://export.farnell.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CompareProductsDisplay?catalogId=15001&langId=71&storeId=10152&catentryId=64576771,67382491&pageType=PLP

    I see these differences:

IC interface type: replacement part only has SPI

Memory type: replacement part is Serial Flash, other part is "Flash"

Again, I don't have much experience in this and don't know if it matters that the new part only has SPI and not Serial+SPI, but another part of my BOM list is using a IC, USB TO UART, SMD, 28SSOP (http://export.farnell.com/ftdi/ft232rl/ic-usb-to-uart-smd-28ssop/dp/1146032) - does this not need the Serial interface of the chip? And what about the memory type of the chips, is that a thing I need to worry about? Flash vs. Serial Flash

The two parts are very similar but you will need to go through the data sheets line by line to check if they will be swappable in your application. This is a long and tedious task and requires that you know your application's software in detail as well. On the other hand you could just try the part and see if it works - which will probably be quicker. Since you don't tell us the application you have to decide yourself which approach to take.

Makes sense Michael, thanks - I'll try and step through the command-list to see if I can spot anything. I learn mostly by trial and error, so this should be a "fun" task image
