Hi there experts!

So, i am currently working with on building a x-ray machine using a old russian x-ray tube.

The tube requires 150 kv, and i tend to build some kind of power supply for it, but my question is: what type?

What i mean is that i could problebly build a tesla coil, marx generator, or some kind of combo of sort to power the tube, but i wonder:

What would be the easyes and most cost efficient sort of power supply to power it?

Magnus Simensen

Btw: i am no new beginner when it comes to high voltage, and the safety regulations  to keep myself safe image

I removed like after seeing the youtube video. Too wild for my temperament. Warning this should NOT be done at home! Clem

Hi Peter, You are right on point here. While I can't speak to medical x-ray machines the dental variety are all under 90 kVp and modern beam intensity is typically under 10 mA. Even so, if you multiply…

    Hi Magnus,

You need to be more concerned with shielding and Collimation than the high voltage to begin with. I do not doubt that you are an experienced and competent technician but if you have to ask about how to do the power supply then maybe you need to rethink this project. While we want to help we usually do not assist in projects that can be dangerous or lethal. This eliminates liability and regrets. Just out of curiosity what do you intend to use 150 kVp x-rays for?

Thanks for the concern, and i will assure you that i wondt be in eny danger.

When it comes to my shealding, i got the perfect thing. The project is run inside a huge safe (the safe has the size of a small bathroom), with me outside.

The room has a 20 cm thick steel dore, with will be closed under the project.

I also have a geiger counter, with i will use to asure my safety.

When it comes to what i will use it fore, it isn't realy a answer, Its more if a "can i do it" project.

Maybe take some awesome pictures, but in the end it dosent realy have eny use in my life.

    Hi Magnus,

Thanks for the information. Sounds like you have the shielding covered. A Geiger counter will detect x-rays as I have used one in the past for this purpose but it is not a very accurate indicator of energy or intensity. The best it will indicate in the presence of x-rays.
