Not sure if this is the right place for discussion. I would like to start a discussion to help start some videos on more advanced console repairs that people could attempt and save consoles from landfills. Every year more die from bad caps or ics or in the case of the game gear bad lcd screens. I suggest starting with a cheap and simple lcd mod to sega game gears. Yes there are 2 upgrade kits (ggtv and Mcwill) you can currently purchase but they are rather pricy. Something that adapts a 20$ 3.5'' TFT LCD Multi-Role Display 240x320 RGB LCD would be ideal. I know the Ben Heck show likes to build new things which is cool, but saving and recycling things is cool too.

I'd extend this to a lot of other vintage computer gear as well - a lot of people just don't understand the rarity and significance of the hardware that they throw away, and some of the gold harvesters like to melt it down for scrap value instead of letting some of us repair it or get to it. Given the way technology is advancing, many users don't think twice about preservation and either dispose of it (illegally) in municipal waste without telling anyone, or it ends up in the hands of someone who tries to sell it off as "rare" for a tidy profit. The kicker is that the older consoles are regularly built with through-hole technology, so re-capping, replacing connectors/ports is quite simple compared to servicing modern electronics. - Gough
