Third Party Operating System doesn't work once Raspbian is used in raspberry pi

Hi

I would like to ask whether a third party OS i.e. ubuntu mate can run if the pi had previously been running rasbian. I had installed ubuntu mate in a new memory card. when it is inserted to pi which had raspbian as its OS it doesn't respond but when the same memory card is inserted in a system running ubuntu mate it works.

    Hi Anup,

     

    Once the Pi is powered off and micro SD removed, it behaves at a high-level like a new Pi. Therefore, if you remove the microSD containing Raspbian, you are free to install a microSD card containing a different OS, just like as if you'd purchased a new Pi.

     

    I'm not sure what could be the issue, but if you're interchanging cards from one Pi to another, you may hit some situations where some OS may hang during startup, in some cases for periods of time longer than expected, since you've changed hardware identifiers (e.g. burned-in MAC addresses) under the feet of the OS.
