Desoldering Iron STand

Question

Hello,

I have one of those desoldering irons with a vacumm bulb on it. Like this one from Newark.

I can't find a way to store it when it's hot. There are a ton of soldering iron stands, but they are all too skinny to fit this thing into them.

Does anyone have one or know of one that I can pick up?

I guess it needs to be anchored into a solid base. Maybe a ceramic gravy boat would work without any need for fabrication … or a coat hanger inside a gravy boat wouldn't tip.

Hi Sean, I can't speak for Douglas but it seems to tick off most off the practical conditions. It would provide a place to set the iron where the hot tip would not cause any damage. It looks stable so that the iron would not tip over or fall out easily. I would even guess that it would be fairly easy to clean. What it lacks is the proper cosmetic and use intent. From the point of finding a turn key solution I would say that the gravy boat is a pretty good idea. If the plate wasn't already permanently attached I would probably invert the plate and glue the bowl to it. (More Stable) John

My mind works in mysterious ways. There was no comedy intended, but I can now see the humor in it. Hopefully it is one of those off-the-wall brainstorming ideas that is close enough to working to get others thinking outside the box and coming up with better ideas - like John's good idea to make it more stable.
