What SSR to use?

Hi all,

I' a new user to Element14. Hoping someone can help me out here.

Basically im building a miniture air temperature controller and am having difficulty selecting SSR.

I need the input voltage to be 0-5Vdc to control a 12Vdc heating element. Heating element has a max rating of 17A.

    I am building something similar for a Reprap Heater bed control. Control voltage is 5v (An Arduino Uno PWM pin) and output voltage is 12VDC. The bed is meant to draw about 9A's on full load current and I'm trying to put it on a PID control from the PID library. So far I have tried 2 SSR's from Hongfa a chinese manufacturer. Both have failed at this stage. I have yet to try a suppresion diode for back voltages but as the heater bed is a resistive load I can't see how this would make a difference. Let me know how you go, but I would recommend spending the extra money on something that matches your requirements from a manufacturer of known repute. Crydom look alright, or maybe Omrom and both have Datasheets for their products on their websites.
