I really need some help with my Parallel port under XP, I have a programmer for PIC chips, that`s quite ancient, and it works well when I use a windows 98 machine, and yet under XP I get IO Error?
the Parallel port seems to do Some things to the programmer in way of it being recognised as being hooked up to a computer, but`s all.
and I know there`s nothing wrong with it or the leads etc...
it`s Purely a windows XP issue.
Anyone know how I can fix this?

currently I`m running the old s/ware on an equally old machine and it`s working well, but I think I`ll try the second of your 2 ideas when I get a bit more bench room to drag out my old IBM laptop and move all this other kit away.
I need to leave my original system intact as I use my EPROM programmer on it (oddly that does work?).
