Got my RaspberriPi (YEAH), Cant load the debian software (BOO)  HELP!

Hi,

I got my RPi in the mail, thank you very much!  I can't seem to get the thing running however.  I have tried a number of Debian and ArchLinux files to no effect (including the downloads from element 14).

Do you have, or know of anyone who sells a pre-loaded SDHC card with the Debian software included on it?

If not, could you please teel me what needs to be done?  (I'm not a techno-dummy, I just don't want to leave anything to chance.)

A prior email to the forum got me a copy of bootcode.bin (putting that on my SDHC will get me three flashes of a green LED (OK)  on the board, much better than the constant RED Power Led.)

I'm spinning mt wheels, and hoping to get some support.

Thanks for your time and trouble.

    Jay,

There are several ebay sellers offering pre-loaded SD cards,

for about $15, although I have no experience with any of them.

There are also better places to ask for help.  Element14 has a

    dedicated RPi forum,

    http://www.element14.com/community/groups/raspberry-pi

and the RPi foundation has a dedicated troubleshooting forum,

    http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=28

Your main goal would be to rule out

      a) insufficiently powerful power supply

      b) power cable with too high resistance (or too long)

      c) incompatible SD card

      d) SD card imaged incorrectly

      e) incompatible keyboard

    (a) and (b) can be ruled out using a multimeter if you have one.

otherwise, Radio Shack sells one for about $20.

    (c) and (d) can be ruled out by buying a pre-loaded card as you suggest,

or by buying a card from the recommended list and following the

    imaging instructions carefully.

    (e) can be ruled out by booting without the keyboard

There is also a beta release of a newer version of debian available,

called "wheezy" that has newer firmware, which solves a number of

problems, including some SD card incompatibilities, so I would suggest

    trying that.

    http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1435

It would help to know which power supplies you have tried,

    and which SD cards.

The troubleshooting guide, which includes recommended accessories, is at:

Finally got it to run!  Here's how -

Downloaded Win32DiskImager - It would not install correctly, bu I ran the .exe from the download,

After reading the .txt in the download, I was able to get the Debian .img loaded into the SD card.

Once accomplished, it booted right up, and I'm off !

    Thanks to all who contributed!
