Piezo-Ceramic Charge Amplifier

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

Hi Guys,

I am in need of a tiny simple charge amplifier to amplify a charge created from a piezo-ceramic and convert it into voltage.

I am using the piezo-ceramic as tiny detector for when applying force, thus I am in need of a charge amplifier.

Where can I find the schematic for one ? and who can create one for me ? can I batch PCB ?

Kind regards,

Pulicaverde

Well, I still do not have a solution. But I have found an article about:

Piezoelectric Measurement System Comparison: Charge Mode vs. Low Impedance Voltage Mode (LIVM)

Now I need to understand how to make a LIVM or a charge amp.

The LTC3588 isn't a charge amplifier  - it won't do to amplify signals from sensors.

Here's  a link to a rather old article on my website that might help.

You can get better chips than the TL071 now !

    Try these amps.

Can you share more details about the piezoceramic component you are using?

Don't be tempted by the transistor circuit, even with a big piezo sensor with 47nF capacity it has  a low frequency cut off frequency at 67Hz with the 100k pot at mid point and RM at max but the LF cut off frequency will get higher if the 100k pot is adjusted in either direction and is indeterminate (depends on transistor gain) as RM pot is reduced.

The LTC6240 ciruit would work but uses rather extreme component values - unless you are experienced at designing and building high impedance circuits you will have problems with a 1G ohm feedback resistor.

More details about your problem would help.

For a piezo charge amplifier you might try Googling "ceramic piezoelectric transducer". Also, Analog Devices" Application Note AN-106 (http://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/application_notes/28080533AN106.pdf) has a circuit inb Figure 16 on page 8 that could be helpful. Good luck in your search.
