LM3886T/NOPB

Hi,

 

I need a pair of LM3886TF/NOPBLM3886TF/NOPB chips to repair an audio amplifier.  I noticed that there is a cheaper LM3886TF/NOPBLM3886TF/NOPB/NOPB version available but I'm not sure if is a direct replacement or not.  There does not seem to be any information in the data sheet specific to the NOPB version and the only real difference I can see on the Farnell page is the amplifier class (B for LM3886T and AB for the NOPB version).  This suggests to me that the NOPB version may need a larger heatsink.  Can anyone help?  I am fairly sure that NOPB means it is a no lead version but can I use it as a cheaper replacement?

    As far a I am aware the NOPB addition to the part number just means that it is lead free -  this isn't clearly spelt out on either the datasheet or the TI product webpage.

    Thanks for the reply.  So I should be able to use the NOPB version as a direct replacement?  Just seems odd that the NOPB version is less than half the price of the ordinary one.

    Ray,

     

    The NOPB in National Semi Part numbers is for RoHS compliance. So yes it will be a direct substitute. From what I have seen when both versions are still offered after some time the compliant versions do become cheaper then the originals. I'm figuring it is probably due to production quantities.
