Help Regarding SABRE Lite Board i.MX 6Quad

Hi All,

This is Adnan here, student at University of Stuttgart and new to FPGA boards. I want to use subjected board for b/m specific functionalities but not getting the right way how to do that.

1. I want to connect a camera (probably 8Mpps) with board over MIPI interface so that camera can send JPEG files of snaps taken to board.

2. Then I need to connect board with a monitor to over RGB or any other interface to visualize the pictures received by the camera.

3. I also need to connect board with another PC using RS232 interface to send pictures from board to PC so that I could receive pictures for further processing in matlab or to save over PC hard derive.

I have read that subjected board works on operating system Linux, but I am not getting how will I do this.

Do I need to write some programs for receiving data from camera and then sending towards monitor or PC for visualizing or saving?

Or does this board will have options to just click on and everything will work?

I do not have this board with now, but probably in 3 to 4 weeks but I need to prepare a presentation about how this stuff will work. please guide me how all these things gonna happen

Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi Adnan,

As I understand, there is no FPGA on the Sabre Lite board.

I'm not familiar with MIPI, but I imagine some driver will need to be written, unless one is supplied with the board.

You could use the USB interface to interface with a USB camera.

It has a HDMI interface so you can connect a monitor.

If you are not familiar with Linux, you may wish to install a copy on your PC to familiarize with it. To use any of these boards, at a bare minimum you need to be aware of how to connect to it via the network (often using SSH) and using a Linux shell and how to download software packages and how to build from source code. I don't know of a single website with all this information combined, so you may need to google for information. I don't know of a suitable book unfortunately.

If you want to capture an image and then send it via RS232 then yes, you will need to write software to do this. The transfer may be slow, you may wish to use the network connection (the board has Ethernet). To send data via the network, try to find protocols/software that will do what you need (e.g. ftp may be sufficient) rather than a custom method.
