Hello,
I'm working a custom laptop project where I want to include a rechargable battery. I decided on a few requirements which are as follow:
- Uses Li-Ion chemistry for the batteries themselves.
- The output voltage should be 12V.
- The system should handling switching between external power and batteries seamlessly.
- The system could be used while charging.
- The system can report information to the computer about battery capacity and discharge rate.
Essentially, I would want an uninterruptable power supply, that uses battery backup. Similar to how laptops work currently.
I found a product that does exactly what I wanted called OpenUPS. It is sold by Mini-Box.com right here. I have tested it and it works great, however, it is very expensive and a bit overkill in terms of features.
Are there similar products I can find (I'm looking for a kit similar to OpenUPS, and not just an IC chip) that are perhaps simpler and more cost effective? What other solutions should I consider?
Thanks!
Ahmed
