unexpected behavior of voltage inverter

Hi. I've been trying to build a voltage inverter. the basic idea was just to light up fluorescent tube.

 

the circuit was simple mosfet driven inverter. than i decided to put there transformer 1:1 so i could see what would happen with it.

i put only five volts to it and i was very surprised after an arc came of it.

is there an explanation why in the freaking world this circuit made almost 5cm arc???

    btw: the inverter capacitors are in pf not in uf my mistake, oh and simulator gave output of -1kv.

    If you try to instantly turn off the current through an inductor, the voltage will go very high as it tries to maintain the current. The energy involved is the energy stored in the magnetic field of the inductor.

    so i can possibly create higher voltage with larger coil (more turns)?

    Look up free-wheeling diode. This may help your understanding.

    You can generate higher voltages by turning the the current off faster. The flyback voltage is proportional to the rate of change of current. A transformer may also be used to increase the pulse voltage using a standard turns ratio calculation..
