Ive been trying to find a solution to an expanding collection of computer components as I work in many areas of my home and so have 3+ computers to allow me to work and play about, now I also have house mates that are in the same situation, they have to carry their computers up and down stairs to play on the good tv, what i need is a single port kvm extender that can use the cat7 gigabit network I set up so they would have a transmitter on there desk and a receiver in each display around the house then sit down, choose the ip of your computer and play away but all I can find are multi-thousand pound server equipment and nearly all of it is vga/ps2 connections, our equipment is nearly all hdmi/usb . is there a "cheap" easy solution out there or better a way I can make a homebrew system using a dev device i.e. arduino, pi, beaglebone I don't mind tying up a computer to serve as a controller but my house mates wont want to move there computers out of there rooms.
P.S. Please don't recommend things such as vnc as I have tried them and the lag is intolerable and advanced graphics for gaming is almost impossible
