Quick question about Beagle bone black

Hi,

I recently bought Beagle Bone black (Element14). As it has six serial interface pins. I bought FTDI cable (USB to 4 wires (Vcc, Tx, Rx, GND). As per manual I connected GND to pin1, Rx to 4 and Tx to 3, When I insert these three wires as per documentation. Only one blue light blinks (which is power and not USER0,1,2,3). When I remove these wires, then board blinks USER0-3 leds. Is it the board problem or something else. Please let me know about that so that I can chase from where I bought.

Without specifically looking at the BB Schematic, I suspect the TX and RX wires need reversing. You typically connect TX from one to RX on the other, then of course RX to TX for the other wire

If you connected RX-RX and TX to TX, this would be a problem but nothing should be damaged so just swap them

The serial lines ordering is documented here. I too use an FTDI cable, and the colouring is mentioned at that URL too if you happen to use the same model FTDI cable).
