DC motor with 1 degree movement and control

I am looking to try and control a small DC electrical motor (servo or Stepper, not sure which one yet) in 1 degree movements over a programmed time. I need help selecting which DC motor will allow me to control small movements of 1 degree. Then I will need a controller that will allow me to program it to be able to control 2 motors moving somewhere between 0-360 degrees relative to a time frame.  For example DC motor 1 would go from 0-90 degrees in 4 hours and DC motor 2 would go from 0-180 degrees in 2 hours.

 

The smaller and lighter the setup the better.

    It sounds like a stepper motor is what you are looking for. They're commonly available on 0.9 degree steps, though you may be able to find a 1 degree version.

     

    If you are looking for motors that work on a steady rotation then synchronous may be the way to go. You can then get gearboxes to reduce the speed by a fixed ratio. Motor Gearboxes | Farnell element14 UK

    Yeah, 400 steps is the common thing.  2^4*5^2.  The Chinese were wise to enumerate base-60.  Putting one three in there kept it constructable.  I don't get why things are this way.  Don't know your precision requirement.  If you are going one way, gears are fine.  Ordinary gears must have backlash in order to function.  If you want to go both ways without slop, you need to use a double-sided timing belt with a spring-loaded idler pulley.
