How long of an extension cord are you possessed of?

You do realize that the compressor will still induce a load on the motor (Engine) even though it is indirectly connected (Via the battery and alternator) so you cannot avoid it affecting it short of running it of a completely isolated battery, but then of course your still affecting it based on the additional load in weight image

it's not as bad as the force that a copressor attached directly to the engine will produce

Hi Valentin, Sorry to disappoint but actually it is worse. Nothing is 100% efficient and the more steps you have to take the more energy gets lost in the form of heat along the way. If the air conditioner gets its energy from just electricity the electricity will have to come from the spinning alternator and the spin of the alternator comes from the car's engine. The step from engine to compressor can be done more efficiently in one step which is why almost all cars have it set up this way. Of course the fan of the air conditioner is usually run off the electricity of the car but this is a minor power drain compared to the compressor. Do you know what the current (in Amps) are required to run the air conditioner you are looking at? Make sure you are looking at a 12 Volt air conditioner. Converting a cars electricity to regular house mains is quite expensive and power intensive.

not to mention having mains floating around in a car is pretty dangerous in itself

Hi Valentin,  Revoltev (Revolt Electric Vehicles) has a web page addressing your question.  Check it out: The 12V Climate Cooling Solution.

If you don't use one already, a highly reflective windshield sun shade does wonders.  Amazon carries them, click this link for a list, then use the features check boxes (on the left) to limit the results.
