DLSR camera trap

ghildich
ghildich 8 months ago

I would like to make a DLSR camera trap like Jeremy Cook. I have a solar powered lamp with a PIR sensor 3.7v. instead of the lamp lighting up can I connect it to an optocoupler to trigger the camera shutter? Or will it damage the camera.?

Many thanks

Glen

It's an old canon Rebel xsi or a 450d if you're in the UK

Canon remotes generally have 2 switches because the shutter release has 2 positions (half way down activates focus, all the way down activates the shutter). Presumably each switch could be handled by a FET driven by your PIR sensor. You may need to make the signal into a one-shot of fixed duration.

Many thanks for replies. Will just use the tip and sleeve and will manually focus. Wolves have just moved into our district so will wait for the weather to warm up, then set up the camera trap. Many thanks Glen

Hi! What's an SDR jack? I googled but couldn't tell what it was.

Incidentally I'm going to take photography classes from next month! A nearby college is running evening lessons over eight weeks, so I figured I'd go. (Just beginner classes, because that's the level that I'm at!).

Also hi cstanton , if possible, should this discussion be moved? It's in an unrelated manufacturer group.
