DLSR camera trap

Question

I would like to make a DLSR camera trap like Jeremy Cook. I have a solar powered lamp with a PIR sensor 3.7v. instead of the lamp lighting up can I connect it to an optocoupler to trigger the camera shutter? Or will it damage the camera.?

ghildich You need to use the tip and sleeve of the 2.5mm jack, the optocoupler may or may not work as the shutter release is looking for a dry contact. Polarity is important if using an optocoupler. In any case it won't damage the DSLR.
