Engineered Arts, a UK-based robot maker, is expected to unveil its Ameca robot during CES 2022. The robot displays the most accurate human-like facial expression to date. The company also labels the robot as “the future face of robotics.” Engineered Arts focuses on developing robots that look identical to a human, and so far, its previous models called Mesmer and RoboThespian are capable of displaying varying emotions. While customers may purchase Ameca via the Engineered Arts website, certain models can be rented for events.
Even though these robots cannot walk, they are specifically designed to move their head, eyes, mouth, neck, arms, hands, wrists, and fingers. They can also provide speech using the voice of someone behind the scenes.
Ameca, serving as a robot platform, allows customers to implement AI and other software to provide the robot with specific abilities. It already comes with software that produces human-like expressions, such as smiling, frowning, winking, and opening and closing its mouth. The robot can also show frustration, surprise, or amusement. Ameca appears to awaken in the video and looks surprised by its existence. Then, it seems startled, as if it noticed a viewer watching its movements.
