Ikea Kallax is a modular storage range. Used in houses and offices. I'm going to turn their "Insert With Door" into an industrial DIN plug-in. It will be able to hold automation and compute devices in an office-like environment.
An insert is inexpensive, about 15 €. It consists of a door, and 3 sides of enforced cardboard. These sides are strong enough to hold DIN rails. Easy to drill holes in, and customise if needed.
My first design will only put rails to the back board. DIN compliant, with the correct space between the rails. I'll use it to house a network hub, power provisioning, and an SBC gateway device. Maybe I'll add a LoRaWan device too, if I find a good solution to route the antenna outside...
It would also be a good solution for smart home appliances. Not those that you usually put in your main utilities cabinet. But the low power smart ones.
This setup is not intended for projects where you need safety, high power or fire-resilience. It's intended for the low power smart part. Let's see if it can serve that purpose ... It would allow for an easy experimental setup in your office. That you can reuse - or discard, when appropriate
