Beagle board or raspberry Pi or any alternative

I am working on an low cost e-voting system. I want to use a finger print reader, proximity sensor, 5 inch display, arcade joystick, a push button, a ticket printer and a bar code scanner module. I plan to capture my biometric data and store them on mySQL. I am not planning to use a full fledge computer due to cost implication. Can someone advise if I should use a raspberry Pi or a beagle board or any other ? I am at the point of order

  • It depends how much computing horsepower and I/O you need. The Raspberry Pi has loads of it, but it is still a very young product and doesn't yet have a very wide selection of plug-in input/output modules. The Gertboard being the notable exception. If a Gertboard can handle all the I/O you need, then I wouldn't hesitate to go down the Raspberry Pi route. The Beagle Board is capable and has more I/O if you look around, but doesn't seem to have built the critical mass of support which the RPi has.
