A group from my hackerspace, Pumping Station: One, in Chicago has been working on an open source hardware pick and place machine project called BoardForge:
Jeff McAlvay took it down to SXSW to show it off and Slashdot interviewed him:
Jeff hopes will make small-run circuit board creation as easy and accessible as small-scale 3-D printing has become in the last few years. ("Think MakerBot for electronics.")
It uses a Raspberry Pi to run OpenCV for computer vision and node.js for a web interface.
Cheers,
Drew
