Unfamiliar Resistor Color Coding

jw0752
jw0752 over 9 years ago

This is the first time I have run into this particular color coding scheme for resistors. I am wondering if anyone can give me the formula to decode it exactly. Also if you know any history that too would be interesting. The first two bands seem to follow the traditional coding but I am lost after that. These resistors came off an older Siemens X-Ray Machine board. The values listed in the picture are empirical measurements.

A close look at the last resistor appears to show Blue, Gray, Black, Gold, Brown, Red

    This makes it a 68ohm 1% with a temp co-efficient of 50ppm

The others are 5 band (4 for value , one for tolerance)

The idea is they have 3 numbers then a multiplier, so for resistor three its 2, 2 0, 1 or 220 x 10 (I simply do 1 extra zero on the end) or 2k2.

Thanks Mark, I have seen 4 band resistors before but for some reason the memory just didn't click into place. I don't know if it is my age or because it is 1 AM here.

This is my first time for 5 band resistors. Wow!
