What is old, is new again. Japanese company seeks to make high tech sails to harness the earth's energy for propulsion. Unlike sailors of centuries ago,
the Eco Marine Power (EMP) company will not only use wind for energy by also solar power. Their system, The Aquarius, are ridged solar sails that can
turn sunlight and wind into electricity for large to small boats. Large vessels dump tons of pollutants into the ocean. EMP hopes to reduce this burden by
installing some of these energy harvesters by the end of 2012.
Also, their smaller Tonbo solar hybrid marine vessel concept is also on the docket of future products from EMP. Geared towards ferry service, small waters
transport, rivers, etc, this boat will be able to cruise at low speeds on solar power alone. The Tonbo should emerge sometime in 2011.
