Electric Motor swap / upgrade

Hello All !

I have a machine that currantly has a motor rated at 120 v 60Hz 15 amps at 5200 rpms.

I would like to change it to run at 2500 rpms but still have the same power.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do or know to make this switch ?

This machine is for cutting steel and I'm trying to cut harder steel so I need a slower speed but same power.

Thank you Oscar.

To "swap" a motor, you need to look at the following characteristics:

    1) Voltage and phase (single or 3) - 120VAC

    2) Current draw / wire size  - 15A

    3) Frame size / HP rating

    4) Mounting locations

    5) Shaft size - diameter and length to coupling, key or ??

    6) Shaft coupling type and size

    7) Duty cycle and Rotation direction

Post a picture like shown below of the motor ID tag and mounting for more help

Sorry for not getting back sooner.

But I have discovered the motor I'm wanting to up grade has no nomenclature on it.

    So then what ?

You will still need the information, so you can do the following:

    1) Contact the manufacturer of the machine and ask for motor characteristics

    2) Take the machine apart and measure the motor characteristics.

    3) Post a bunch of pictures and let people guess at what you need.

If you just want half the speed, add a 2:1 pully or gear set inline to the motor you have.
