"Park Spark," made by Cambridge artist Matthew Mazzotta, is the name of a new project to turn dog waste into park electricity. Using methane digesters to convert the waste into odorless methane, Matthew hopes that this will have an impact on our society's "green footprint" and to make people aware of the amount of waste our best friends create. People have been using methane digesters for heat, cooking, and light for quite some time as a inexpensive source of fuel. The project was partially funded through the Council for the Arts at MIT with the Cambridge Arts Council. Whether or not this catches on with other parks is still in question. In fact, every city street could be run by this method, the resources are there.
