Hi there,
For those of you who work with grid-tied equipment (aren't we all?): you might have run into the result of a bad stormy night; a burned out power supply or even whole TV. When I design a power supply I have to fullfil certain standards (IEC 61K), which also covers lightning surges. Customers sometimes even ask to go beyond those standards. The question is: are the basic standards enough and how often do we see dead equipment due to lightning strokes? I have one piece of equipment to simulate lightning but it is not as violent as the real monster outside.
Can you share some experience on this topic?
Best regards, Enrico Migchels
