TI today introduced a new power management device that integrates a current-limited power switch and a 2.6-GHz data switch optimized for a USB interface. The TPS2540TPS2540 is claimed to be the industry's first host-side charging control IC with an onboard power switch to enable intelligent charging for portable electronics devices that draw power from a USB port.
The TPS2540RTETTPS2540RTET power distribution switch is intended for applications where heavy capacitive loads and short-circuits are likely to be encountered, incorporating a 73-mΩ, N-channel MOSFET in a single package.
The TPS2540RTETTPS2540RTET supports a wide range of TI USB 2.0 and 3.0 transceivers as well as various USB charging modes including the upcoming Battery Charging 1.2 draft specification, Chinese and Europe design requirements as well as popular proprietary charging modes.
Applications include notebook PCs and other intelligent USB host devices.
