Surge suppression idea

Is it possible to use a Ferrite Bead as a surge suppressor for servos, steppers, other motors? Ferrite beads are good for high frequency suppression, so how big would one have to be for low frequencies? This question is inspired off of what a friend of mine has suggested.

    What is the source of the signal you want to suppress? If it comes from your servos, steppers, or other motors, you can easily make measurements. If you want to protect your servos, steppers, or other motors for unknown surge voltages, you never know when the surge will attack and what shape is has.
     
    With an inductor (like a ferrite bead) you can slow down the rate of rise of surge voltages and currents.
    This way a narrow transient will reach a lower peak voltage behind the inductor.
    A combination of an inductor resistor and capacitor can be used to suppress known surge voltages.
     
    To protect against unknown surges only varistors, sparc gaps and zenerdiodes can be used.
    Inductors can help to slow down the rate of rise of surge voltages and currents.
    This might give you time to blow a fuse before the surge voltage has reached a value that will destroy an overvoltage protector like a zenerdiode or a varistor.
