Hello,  My name is Danny, Christy-Admin. suggested I contact this group with my question.  I bought the above "Subject CD" trying to learn how to build this machine to use on my house to stop paying so much of an Electricity Bill to the Power Company, and maybe produce so much electricity, I could sell some of it back to the grid.  I have bought the "How To Build" PV solar Panels, wind turbans, perpetual motion magnetic generator, and several other things attempting my quest to accomplish my plan.  I have been all over YouTube searching, and I am tired of giving my money away only to discover how to charge AA and AAA batteries.  Somebody from "Element 14" has been bugging me to death to make a post, so here it is.  Does ANYBODY know how big of a Tesla contraption, or How To Plans to do it, so it will generate enough electricity to power my complete Home?  I am sorry if I sound about half mad, but I am so Completely Flusterated.  I know Somebody Somewhere has got to be smarter than me that can tell me what I need to know.  Please, keep it simple, I don't know much about electical componets but I am willing to try to learn, if someone is willing to have the patients with me to help me learn.  I sure would appreciate it.

Thank You,

Danny

Mr. Tesla invented lots of fascinating machines, but I don't know of any that will practically power your home.  What type of machine are you looking for?

    Danny,

The first step that you should take is to measure the power that you consume. You will likely find that there is a baseline amount, maybe 1.5Kwatts per hour that you consume 24 hours a day. Above that you find the power consumed when large appliances in your home come on, such as the electric water heater, electric stove, or a whole house air conditioner.

Now you have a goal. If you can provide a little more than that, say 2.0 kWatts of electrical power to your home 24 hours a day, then you will knock that power bill down to maybe 10 to 20% of what it is today. The only power that you will purchase from Edison will cover your peak demands and you may find that they are not all that big. Get an energy monitor and do the math.

Next, you look at the existing technologies and see which ones you can afford; wind, solar, hydro, steam, or some other. If you can't afford to change using the existing technologies, then you'll just have to get busy inventing one because there are no others at the present time.

Now, the devices that you listed are all experimental. None of them are in production or they would be added to the wind, solar, hydro, steam list. You would find them at Lowes and Home Depot and they would be packaged and safe to use. Not even Hydrogen Fuel Cells are ready for that market. Since they do not yet exist it will take you and a very large sum of money to bring them into a state where they will be useful to you. That sum of money will far exceed the cost of your electric bill. A company near me has already spent in excess of seven million dollars to implement a bio-fuel generator; not finished yet. How big is your electric bill?

If you are not an inventor, then stop looking for the 'silver bullet' device that will supply you with endless energy (as they are promising). Save your money until you can afford the existing alternatives. If you do not become a successful inventor, you will at least be able to say that you were not a fool that was parted from his money.

Well "Sherpadoug" and "Checkers1811", I just spent over an hour trying to put on paper how to explain myself and it just disappeared.  The short version is, I am sure we use less than 2.0 kWatts of electrical power per hour, per 24 hours a day.  The Tesla machine is described to me as having an antenna that captures Cosmic Solar Rays 24 hours a day, night or day, rain or shine.  It is a continuous unlimited power supply with no moving parts and it is portable.  Since I am uneducated about this kind of stuff I guess the excess power you don't use goes to either a Bank of Forklift type batteries, or is sent back into the Electrical Grid causing your meter to spin backwards.  Alexander Graham Bell must have come up with something similar but I just can't afford to buy his stuff to.  I don't have a clue what kind of Mathematics it would take to figure it all out, there is a bunch on YouTube about it though.  I would think it would have to sit on a trailer with an extendable boom antenna as a complete package, because it is meant to be mobile.  Tesla's Invention was a Fixed Gigantic Tower to power several complete Industrial Cities.  The story is when he completed his work and it was up and running, he had a mysterious fire housing all his records, but they must not have got them all.  He was completely defended and even though he was born in the United States, his Parents were Immigrants from Europe somewhere.  He got kicked out of the US penniless without his vast library of notes.  Somehow, they did not get them all, and they resurfaced but nobody had the complete plans so everybody is experimenting charging little batteries.  The Power Companies with the money, erased his success and jacked up the power rates and have never stopped.  Money is Power, the more Money you have the more Power you possess.  There are probably people associated with this very website who are feverishly trying to come up with Grant money to pursue their projects in hopes of making the big strike.  The Money people are passing it out to them so they don't have to pay taxes themselves, but if the poor person ever makes his strike they can never just unveil their baby.  They could get the same treatment Tesla got and be erased themselves, so they have to be very careful how they use their discovery.  Clean Energy is the Hot Subject right now, the first one to cross the finish line will not be personally recognized for their work, Big Energy will be, and God Help the Folk who made it possible.  I am not an inventor by any means, but if we can pick up a weak signal from a Satellite way out in space, that has such a small foot print it can be collected on a little dish to watch TV, surely this deal is possible to figure out.  All we have to do is catch what is already there, and nobody controls the Sun but God.  I just want to scoop up a little of what is already there, use it for the rest of my life, and pass it on to someone else to use.  Could it hurt Big Energy maybe, but I doubt enough to upset them, I am a nobody with a little bitty dream of helping myself.  If the information gets out, I didn't do it, right.

    Thanks Guys,

    Danny

    Let's break this up a bit ...

"The short version is, I am sure we use less than 2.0 kWatts of electrical power per hour, per 24 hours a day."

If you think that you can generate 500 watts and satisfy your energy needs, then you are in a great position to use what is available to meet your goal. Choose an existing technology and install it. You still need to figure out how much power you are really using. To say "I am sure ..." indicates to me that you are still guessing. The national average usage for residential power is about 1.28 kWatt hours per home. It is an average. My average is more like 1.55 kWH, but I can't say that even a 2000 watt generator is enough to allow me to disconnect from the grid. Today, for instance, my peak usage was 12.141 kW @ 9:25 AM. A 1500 watt generator could never provide that kind of energy. So the average power for my home cannot be used to size the system.

You have the same problem. If you guess, you will be wrong. You have to measure your usage and size the system from there. (even if it is a Tesla system). You would also do well to add some to your peak needs as a safety margin. Maybe the best approach is to make each of the electric appliances in your home cooperate with each other to lower the peak demands (aka The Smart Home). It does not matter if the technology you choose is the Tesla device or wind or solar. If it is not big enough you will still depend upon the grid.

At the present time, and in my opinion, it is not posible for the majority of homes to be independent of the grid so I am working on a grid-tied system to allow the grid to handle the peak loads. For me, a 2.0 kW system will knock my electric power bill down to between $10 and $20 a month ($0.10 per kWH in my area). I avoid the idea of selling to the grid for reasons described at "Who May Grid Tie Inverters?"

"The Tesla machine is described to me as having an antenna that captures Cosmic Solar Rays 24 hours a day, night or day, rain or shine. ... (the Tesla mini history) ... I just want to scoop up a little of what is already there, use it for the rest of my life, and pass it on to someone else to use."

Don't we all. I choose to scoop up a little of what is already there by tapping into wind and gravity. It would take too long to describe the gravity system, but I am sure that you have seen the numerous wind systems available.

So let's investigate what you have described by looking at a different device. There is a YouTube video of a sales guy from RCA showing their (AirEnergy WiFi Harvesting Charger). It harvests the energy transmitted from a WiFi device, converts this Radio Frequency (2.4 GigaHertz) energy into a DC voltage and charges a DC device like an iPod or cell phone. (Yes, it is another AA or AAA battery type device that you talked about in your first post, but hang in there for a little while longer.) ((and forget about ohGizmo for any leads to relevant information. It is a pretty-faced money making vertical portal that gets paid for clickthroughs))

The radiation from a WiFi device, or the local AM radio station far exceeds the cosmic radiation that you describe and not even RCA has built a device from that source that outputs any meaningful DC power levels. Read the comments. Some of them are valid.

Yes. There are invisible sources of energy all around us. Gravity, RF energy, Magnetic fields, resonant circuits (Tesla) and the electrons which spin inside of every molecule of your body and every other substance in this creation. Can we tap them? Sure ... someday. Can I make this happen for anything less than $125,000? Not likely. And, believe it or not, I actually do think that the Tesla devices are the most likely to provide us with energy independence.

Continue to buy the plans from these information pedlers and one day look back to add up what you have spent on your education. You will receive an education from these sources, but you may find that the lessons were not what you wanted to learn. Caveat Emptor!

I've been building Tesla coils for 10 years, all the way up to 25kw.  None of them have ever given back any energy.

you may want to see this.

Some IEEE Engineers have an open source project which reveals a working model of the Tesla Wireless power Transmission system.

It is not easy to follow because of the audio quality, but it is definitly interesting.

We all know that radios work.  The losses are huge, however.  You can build a coil the size of an apartment building and collect enough 60hz to power a few light bulbs, but why?  And where are you going to get 6345 miles of 16AWG copper wire?  You need a coil 8-feet in diameter, 1.14 miles long to resonate at 60 hz.

Hi Checkers,  Sorry, I have been down sick again, unable to log on for a few days.  I guess I have my answer to my burning question.  Scott, your post was a big awakening to me.  I just want to say a Great Big "THANK YOU" to all that have put up with me.  You have shown such Personal Class to even answer my first message.  You have given me a Great Big Education though, one I will not soon forget.  I went about this Tesla deal all wrong.  I have been acting like an old Bull, lowering my head, huffin and puffin determined to find the answer I wanted to HEAR.  Well, I guess sometimes through seeking what your after with Reckless Abandonment you could be stumbling all over the Answer not ever recognizing it to quit and listen to what you are being TOLD.  I Beg of You, if I have Offended Anybody, by not Recognizing Your Education and Knowledge you have Earned the Right Way, I ask you Each One for your Forgiveness.  I have certainly shown my bright side, and it feels awful dim right now.  I can't put into words how bad I feel, so I think the thing for me to do is Hush, before I embarrass myself any worse.  I am following your advice and going back to Solar, hopefully those PV Crystalline tiles will get cheaper and easier to find.  I believe I can build those Solar Panels, and have someone install them on the house.  I have proven I can produce Hot Air personally, but I can say honestly to you I have experimented a lot in making Hot Water, I have just not worked out all the bugs successfully yet, but I have been slightly successful.  If you care to hear what I have done, I would be happy to share my information with you, but only if you want to hear about it, just let me know and I will start a new Post about that subject.

Thanks Again, For Putting Up With Me, and Again, Please Forgive my Uninformed Arrogance about Tesla,

    humbly Danny

Not a problem. Just keep pushing. It sometimes takes a bullish attitude to break through the flack before you can see the best answers.

As for the hot water, I am certain that we'd all like to hear about it, in a new thread as you suggested.

    Hi all,

Regarding getting free power, if someone took a giant coil of the proper diameter and length and was able to set it up next to a clear channel AM transmitter (almost always 50,000 watts), then they might be able to rectify this power, turn it to DC, then invert it and make several KW at 60 Hz, however, it would almost certainly be illegal. People who live on farms, etc with very high voltage 60 Hz power lines overhead have been getting free power for years, And they almost always get caught as the utility companies end crews out to inspect the lines periodically and eventually, they'll inspect the lines near your property if you do this and report it and at a minimum you would have to pay back the utility for the amount of electricity they compute that you used, which may be much higher than you actually used. At worst, you'll go to prison for grand theft or similar, even though your aparatus is not even touching their equipment. The power transfer tqakes place through the air--no joke.

As I said, it can be done with very high voltage overhead power lines or with high power AM radio (usually 50,000 watts to the antenna tower). There's more equipment involved in making 60Hz AC from the AM radio power, but either thte AM or the overhead power lines will do the job. If you ever tried this to power your home, the last thing I would recommend that you do is sell some of the power back to the utility as they'll send out a crew to install a separate watt-hour meter to measure how much power you're "selling them back". And in the process, they might see your aparatus and then you're busted!

But my main point is that wireless power transmission is real and practical, though not always legal despite your not even touching the utilities equipment. Something just doesn't seem right about that (ha ha).

    Regards,

    Kamran Kazerm
