Is Solar Energy a foolproof alternative of normal electric energy?

I would get a LDA flat in Lucknow in Gomtinagar Extension area by end of this year. I would like to have the Solar Energy for light, ventilation, water heaters ad Air Conditioners at my residence. The available data in market related with availability, cost, subsidy, incentives, quality, guarantee and serviceability of the full apparatusare too confusing to believe and take a final decision. May I have all necessary information on the subject to go ahead? Will the wiring, fittings etc required for normal electric fittings be common for solar energy also, or I will have to have separate syetem? Will it be advisable to avoid having the normal electric connection and keep only the solar system ? Which alternative would be cheaper and? What about the maintenance cost?

To answer your question I propose that you conduct a very simple exercise that will be quick and then you will have self evident information. Here is the exercisde: pretend you want to equip your residence with just enough solar cell power to provide power for a typical hair dryer. 1) go on line and check the wattage rating of the hair dryer 2) go on line to some supplier such as Home Depot and check out the pricing for enough solar panels to provide power to the hair dryer 3) factor in pricing for an inverter to invert the solar panel DC to AC for hair dryer 4) figure up an installation cost...........add them all together and then remember that this is just for your hair dryer alone and would power nothing else......also remember that the sun must be out while using your hair dryer.....or factor in cost of batteries to provide this power when the sun is not shinning.

Do the above and you will have your answer.
