Biomass boiler hot water temperature sensor warning system

Former Member

I have an idea for a hot water heat hydronics temperature monitoring system for my biomass outdoor boiler that I use to heat my homestead. I would like to monitor, track and graph boiler water temperatures at various locations in the complete system and also monitor, track and graph indoor and outdoor temps. I also would like to do something like this to monitor my hydronics setup in my greenhouse like nutrient levels and greenhouse inside and outside temps. When I first discovered the Raspberry Pi unit I thought to myself this is it but i do not know how to hook multiple temp sensors to it and how to graph or display this info to a remote computer or display or be able to send me a notification to a portable device like a smart phone. Help?

If this is an inappropriate question or not the place to ask this question please let me know or steer me in the right direction.

Thanks

Kevin

A good place to start would be by sketching a system diagram showing what and where you want to measure. From that you can determine the type and quantity of sensors you will require, and from that be able to determine the types and number of I/O required on your microcontroller.

The Raspberry Pi may be a good choice for interfacing, but a lack of native ADC support may hinder you slightly.

There are a few ways to formally diagram these sorts of system.  When the diagram is mature, then we can properly sic electronics designers and software developers on the matter.
