Are You Satisfied with the Specs of the Present Generation of Low-Power Devices?

Low-power, ultra-low-power, nano-power -- terms we see in just about every new product introduction, data sheet, or specifications. Clearly, the low-power spec of semiconductor devices today is critical as portable, battery-powered devices are seeing a high level of growth; this trend is expected to continue. But where are we at now? Is the current generation of low-power devices meeting your needs or do you need even lower power consumption to meet the needs of your designs? If so, what level of low-power consumption would you like to see?

Me personally started with electronics when AtMEGA32 was the king of the day and ARM had just started off. Coming form that background to ULP STM32's and Cortex M0+'s and MSP430's .. .. .. There has been…

With today's technology it should be possible to have a cell phone last between 4 and 10 times longer on a charge and there is certainly demand for that type of performance. Maybe displays spend most of their time as ultra low-power black and white displays. Maybe the processor and other circuitry use sub-threshold voltages. Maybe battery energy is doubled or quadrupled. Maybe (5G) cell towers are so close together, radio power can be cut dramatically. How much of a premium would you pay for lower power phones or fanless computers?
